AAUW NJ applauds passage of bill S2310 that calls
for pay transparency in job postings.
New Jersey takes important step to narrow the gender pay gap.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 1, 2024 —
The New Jersey State Affiliate of the American Association of University Women (AAUW NJ) applauds the legislature for acting on an economic issue that will bring workplace equity to all workers. Bill S2310, which requires transparency concerning compensation for promotional opportunities and in employment listings, passed in both the Senate and Assembly with bipartisan support and now awaits Governor Phil Murphy’s signature.
The bill requires employers to disclose in each job posting the hourly wage or salary range and a general description of benefits and other compensation programs for which the employee would be eligible. Research has shown that certain workplace practices can exacerbate pay disparities, including the failure to be transparent with salary information.
“This is a great achievement, especially for women who have had to contend with workplace biases for decades,” said AAUW NJ President Sharon Suber. “AAUW has long advocated for measures to increase pay transparency, and its research shows that the gender wage gap tends to be narrower in job sectors where wages are transparent. We’ve led the fight for fair pay and economic opportunity for women and we are not done.”
Achieving economic security for all women is one of AAUW’s top public policy priorities. AAUW is committed to fighting for pay equity and fairness of compensation and benefits. It also advocates for equitable access and advancement in employment, free from systematic barriers and biases, including vigorous enforcement of employment discrimination statutes.
